1.    Remove unnecessary programs:

To do this -

·        Click on the Start button and then click on Control Panel.

·        From here select the option of Programs and Features.

·        Select the program you want to uninstall from the list of programs and click Uninstall.

 

2.     Remove unnecessary programs from startup:

If your computer is taking a long time to start, the first thing you should do is check your startup list. When you boot the computer, many programs are loaded automatically and they affect the performance of the computer. Therefore, those programs which are unnecessary in startup, remove them from startup.

To remove unnecessary programs from startup –

·        Click on the Start button – type “System Configuration” in the search box and hit enter.

·        Now the System Configuration window will open.

·        Select the Startup tab here and uncheck the programs you want to remove from startup.

 

3.     Disk Cleanup:

 

Disk Cleanup deletes unnecessary and temporary files from your PC, giving you more space to store on the disk and also increases the performance of PC.

·        Click the Start button – type Disk Cleanup in the search box and hit enter.

·        Here select the drive you want to clean from the drive letter and click Ok.

·        Select the file type you want to delete and click Ok

 

4.    Delete Temporary Files:

Whenever a program runs on the computer, it creates temporary files, which slow down the computer.

·        Click the Start button and enter Run by typing in the search box.

·        Here type “%temp%” and hit Enter.

·        Select and delete all files and folders by pressing Ctrl + A.

 

5.    Scan for viruses and malware:

 

You should also perform regular system scans to get rid of any virus and malware that may be slowing down your computer. You can schedule the scan to scan once a week. Apart from this, make sure that you are not using more than one antivirus.

6.    Defragment the hard drive:
